Schedule of Prior Analysis

Artworks I have already researched extensively, and which are therefore excluded from the confidentiality undertakings that otherwise apply to an Art Review. If yours is one of them and you go ahead, your report will contain only what I find that is new.

List last changed: 10 October 2026  ·  Page last updated: 13 October 2026  ·  161 listed works, plus the categories described below

What this page is

When you engage me for an Art Review, I take on confidentiality obligations. Those obligations are set out in clause B13 of the Terms of Service and in the Art Review Services Agreement. They are deliberately strong, and they are permanent so far as you are concerned: your identity — including your name and your address — the photographs and documents you send me before I deliver your report (or, if there is no report, before the engagement ends), and the fact that you engaged me at all stay confidential indefinitely.

This page is about the artworks, not about you.

I have already carried out extensive independent research on every work listed below, and my own independent analysis of the further categories described in the next section. That work was done prior to, and independently of, any client engagement. It is my own work and my own material. I therefore cannot and do not offer any confidentiality undertaking in respect of these works, and I remain free to discuss, write about, film, publish and otherwise use my findings about them, whenever and however I choose.

If you are considering commissioning an Art Review, read this list first. If the artwork you have in mind appears here, or falls within one of the categories below, I will tell you in writing and you choose what happens next. By default the engagement is declined and your Quotation Fee is refunded in full — you need do nothing for that to happen. Alternatively you may tell me in writing, separately and after I have told you, that you want me to go ahead anyway; in that case the engagement continues, no refund is due on this ground, and no confidentiality undertaking attaches to the artwork itself or to anything I find in it. Your identity, your address and your photographs stay confidential permanently in either case. What changes is the artwork. If you take the default option and the engagement is declined, there is no report and nothing to keep confidential. If instead you tell me to go ahead, then for that engagement no confidentiality attaches to the artwork itself or to anything I find in it, and the five-year confidentiality that clause B13(d) would otherwise give the contents of your report does not apply — although my promises not to buy, sell or otherwise deal in the artwork keep running, as they would for any other client.

If you go ahead, your report will contain only what I find that is new. Nothing I had already found in the artwork before you paid the Quotation Fee goes into it: that earlier work is not what you are paying for. Before you decide, I will tell you roughly how much examination I have already done on the artwork, and that a new review may well find nothing new. If your artwork is one of several versions covered by a single entry in the list, anything I had already found in any of those versions stays out of your report, so a report on your version may say little. See clause B9 of the Terms.

The excluded categories in full

The exclusion covers all of the following:

Whether your artwork is on this list is judged as at the day you pay the Quotation Fee. If it is not on the list and does not fall within a category then, it does not become excluded, as against your engagement, because of something I publish or add here afterwards — and the confidentiality you already have is not cut down by any later listing. See clause B9 of the Terms.

I add works to this page from time to time. A work does not need to appear in the table to fall within categories (b), (c), (d) or (e) — the categories operate independently of the list, and the list is not exhaustive of the works I have analysed.

What this page does not do

Listing a work here does not mean:

  • that I claim to have made any discovery about it;
  • that I make any claim about its attribution, authenticity, provenance, condition or value;
  • that I have any interest in it, or any intention to transact in it; or
  • that any opinion I hold about it is correct, complete or capable of verification.

Everything I publish about any artwork is a subjective opinion arrived at by a manual visual examination of photographs, by me personally, without automated analysis or AI, using a method of my own that has not been tested, peer-reviewed or published in the scientific literature. It is not a valuation, not an authentication, not an attribution, and not advice. See clause A8 of the Terms of Service.

Nothing on this page limits any obligation I have under a law that cannot be excluded by agreement, including any obligation of confidence imposed by a court or by statute.

The list

Listed by artist, in alphabetical order of the name under which that artist is conventionally filed — so Leonardo da Vinci appears under L, Jan van Eyck under E, and El Greco under G. Works whose artist is not known are grouped together at the end. Where a work exists in more than one version and the entry says so, every version is covered — and anything I had already found in any of those versions counts as already found for all of them.

If your artwork is on this list

If you have already paid the Quotation Fee and the artwork turns out to be listed here or to fall within one of the categories above, I will tell you in writing. Unless you tell me within ten Business Days that you want to proceed anyway, I decline the engagement and refund the Quotation Fee in full under clause B4(b) of the Terms. If you do tell me to proceed, your report will contain only what I find that is new, as explained above.

You are welcome to contact me before paying anything. Use the enquiry form on the home page or email email@hunchtrail.com. You do not need to identify the artwork to ask a general question, and I would rather answer it than take a fee I am going to refund. Neither the enquiry form nor email@hunchtrail.com is confidential, so please do not identify the artwork there. Confidentiality begins only once you have paid the Quotation Fee and I have emailed you from my own address — see clause B13 of the Terms.
